Come and Celebrate Barrington’s Holiday Traditions, this year they are filled with Holiday Magic!
ChristKindlfest December 6,7,8 - A holiday village market and so much more: with Swiss chalets selling chocolates, German pastries, ornaments, handcrafted items, clothing and more. There will be entertainment featuring children’s choirs, dance troupes, traditional German music, strolling carolers, and rock bands. A German food court will include classic German foods, German beers and traditional German glug.
There’ll be a carousel, train rides, bumper cars and reindeer for young children. Entry to ChristKindlFest is free. The heated tent pavilion is free until 7pm and is a great place to sit, eat, drink, and listen to music all day and night with live talent scheduled from open to close. On Friday and Saturday night, after 7pm, there is a $5 cover in the tent pavilion only to see the featured rock bands on the main stage.
Friday, December 6th, 3pm – Midnight, Saturday, December 7th, 10am – Midnight, Sunday, December 8th, 11am – 5pm in Downtown Barrington at the corner of Cook and Station Streets, walking distance to the Metra Train station, visitors can take the train or park in the station lot near Spring and Station Street. BYDE’s The Nutcracker -December 6th, 7th, 8th – Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble performs their annual production of the Nutcracker. There is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than by seeing this beautiful show right in the Barrington High School Auditorium. The show times are December 6th at 7:00 pm, December 7th at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and December 8th at 2:00 pm with tickets between $15 and $28. Saturday December 7th from 10am till 7pm – Enjoy Barrington’s Annual Holiday Traditions. Throughout the village Barrington is filled with unique holiday events leading up to the Annual Tree Lighting. From the Metra station you can head over to South Cook Street and catch the free Holiday Trolley, that will transport you to all of the festivities:
‘Candy Cane Festival’, 10 am-2 pm, at the Foundry Shopping Center: Begin your day with free Reindeer Antlers from Calico Corners, a Petting Zoo, Photos With Santa , Letters to Santa and Gingerbread Cookies, and Climb Aboard a Barrington Fire Truck. Also visit participating retailers for special treats and surprises.
‘Winter Wonderland’ at the Ice House Mall from 10:30am -4pm. The magic starts at 10:30am - when families will be treated to a magical presentation of the ‘The Nutcracker’ by Midwest Dance Collective. 11:30am – Mrs. Claus with a Holiday Story Hour and a holiday treat of cookies and milk. 12:30pm -Santa’s Grand Welcome with Santa arriving to the Ice House Mall by trolley . Santa will greet children for visits and photos from 12:30-1:30pm. More holiday fun begins at 2:00pm – with the holiday sounds of the Rose School “Stingrays” Singers and at 2:30pm - German Story Hour a holiday tradition for children by Language Stars of Barrington.
‘Holidazzle Fest’, 10:30am-5 pm, at the Shops as Flint Creek: stop by Heinen’s to take in the sights & smells of Holiday cooking, entertaining and merrymaking. Children can decorate sugar cookies and parents can watch cooking demonstrations and taste beer, wine and food pairings. Meatheads next door will also have surprises and fun.
‘Gingerbread Lane’ at the Shops on Lageschulte from 12pm – 5pm. Lageschulte Street comes to life as Gingerbread Lane for a day, lined with giant gingerbread people and candy canes. The Chicago Redhots Acapella Group will delight the crowd. Around 3:00pm Santa arrives on the Trolley on his way to the Tree Lighting.and activities. Around 3:00pm Santa arrives by Trolley to visit with the children on his way to the Village Center for the annual Tree Lighting Celebration.
Tree Lighting Festival ‘Barrington Aglow’, 1 to 6:30pm In the Village Center on South Cook St. Delight in an evening of holiday cheer with free carriage rides, Madrigal Singers, extended evening hours in the shops and restaurants. Then watch as Santa arrives on a Barrington Fire Engine to light Barrington’s Christmas tree! The Tree Lighting Ceremony is at 5:00 pm. After the tree lighting, Santa will visit with the children in his red Santa House on South Cook Street; from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm. Refreshments and hot cocoa will be offered to those who have braved the cold. Remember to bring your camera to capture those memorable moments with Santa.
Barrington’s Holiday Trolley – Saturday, December 7 – Holiday Trolley rides will be available from 10:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. The trolley will make a continuous hourly circuit with stops every 12 minutes at the following locations: Village Center – 100 S Cook Street; The Ice House Mall on Applebee Street; Shops on Lageschulte Street; Foundry Shopping Center on Northwest Highway; The Shops at Flint Creek – 500 N.
