Girls Gluten Free Day Out — A Reader Suggested Outing

Francesa's Tavola

Congratulations to Diana H of Chicago for this suggested outing off the Northwest train line.  In Diana’s outing which we will call Girls Gluten Free Day Out, she wanted to combine two of her favorite places for  yummy gluten free food in the burbs. Although she has never combined these two stops on a outing together she thought they would be perfect for a day out with her friends when combined with a trip to a local salon for a manicure or pedicure. We sent her 4 free tickets to Arlington Park Racetrack for her contribution.

Start with lunch at Francesca’s Tavola in Arlington Heights. Diana said everything on the gluten free menu is outstanding, including  the Gluten free bread they serve. She said that the desserts are good but she would rather save that part of the meal for cheesecake at the Feast of Eden in Palatine. To get to Francesca’s from the Metra Station head southeast on US-14 E, and turn right on South Arlington Heights Road. It is about a 9 minute walk. Get back on the train and head to Palatine, just two stops down from Arlington Heights.

Diana said the first time she went to the Feast of Eden Cafe she thought she would have to forgo dessert while all her friends indulged, however she was happily surprised  to find they have outstanding Gluten Free Cheesecake. The only drawback is that they do not have week-end hours and are only open until 3p.m. Diana assured us it is worth it. Feast of Eden is located in the Harris Bank Building approximately 15 minutes from the train station. I know it is a bit of a hike but this way you won’t feel guilty about eating cheesecake. Head east on W Wood St, left on Plum Grove Rd, right on E Colfax St, then left on E Northwest Hwy.

After dessert Diana suggest treating yourself to a manicure or pedicure for a little bit of pampering before calling it a day. There are several salons in the area. Diana suggested the Nelson Group Salon, which is located near the train station. Check their website for specials.  Located on West Slade Street across from the Palatine Station
