Beaded Elements 119 South Cook Street Barrington, IL 60010 847-304-1420

This day trip features three bead stores in two towns. Whether you have experience making jewelry or want to pick up a new hobby, you will enjoy the diversity of these three shops.

The first stop is Beaded Elements in Barrington, where you will find a wide variety of beads and supplies. Kits are also available, taking the guess work out of how your finished product will look. Classes are offered for all skill levels, including weaving and macrame classes. Beaded Elements will host parties for pre-teens, teens and adults as well as an occasional trunk show.

To get to this shop head northwest from the train station on Park Avenue. Turn right on south cook and the store will be on the right. This will only be about a five minute walk.

Egg Harbor Cafe 210 South Cook Street Barrington, IL 60010 847-304-4033

Before getting back on the train, you may want to stop for lunch at Egg Harbor Cafe. Don’t let the name fool you, this restaurant offers a full lunch menu, and is open until 2:00 pm everyday.

To get to the restaurant head south on South Cook Street and Egg Harbor is on the right. After lunch head back to the train to Palatine. From the restaurant go north on South Cook Street, right on East Station Street, then right on Park Avenue.

Bead World 8 South Brockway Palatine, IL 60067 847-776-2323

The first stop in Palatine will be Bead World. Just as the name suggest this shop offers beads both old and new from around the world. Bead World also carries ethnic, and semi-precious beads as well as beads made from unusual sources such as bone and wood.

Classes are held for students ages twelve and up. Class offerings include knitting and wire wrapping.

To get to Bead World head east from the Palatine Metra Station on West Wood Street, right on North Brockway Street and you will find the store on the right. It should take less than five minutes.

Facets of Isis 47 West Slade Street Palatine, IL 60067 847-705-6614

Facets of Isis is the last stop on your excursion and  only a few minutes away. This store also carries a wide variety of beads including crystal, seed, glass and porcelain. Jewelry making tools and the latest magazines are also available.

A wide array of classes are taught, including classes in crochet, weaving, precious metal clay and wire wrapping.

To get to Facets of Isis from Bead World, head north on North Brockway Street, then right on Slade Street and the store will be on the right.

Please note for all multiple stop outings

If you are making a stop-over on a week day, inform the conductor when you hand them your ticket and they will make a notation to that effect when they punch your ticket.  On the weekend this is unnecessary if you are riding on a weekend pass, as it is good for as  much Saturday and Sunday travel as you can fit in.
