Start your excursion by grabbing a friend or a group of friends, and sign up for a yoga class at Akasha. This beautiful studio offers classes for new and experienced students alike. If you have never tried yoga this will be a great first time experience. Don’t worry about equipment, everything will be provided. Wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely. The classes are all taught by experienced instructors. We recently tried yoga for the first time (at Akasha) and Laura and I felt that after the session we were so relaxed that it was similar to the feeling after having a massage.
On Monday evenings there are two classes to choose from, the first being an all level class and the second a light and easy class. Registration forms are available on line which you can fill out and bring to your first class, or plan on arriving early to finish all the necessary paperwork. Before dinner you may want to make use of their changing room. To get to Akasha from the downtown Crystal Lake Metra Station, head southeast on Railroad Street, left on Main Street. The studio is located on the corner of North Main and Beardsley Street, about two minutes from the station.
After your class, head across the street to Duke’s Alehouse and Kitchen. Meatless Mondays are a way to support the environment while promoting good eating habits all while being friendly to your budget. A select number of the vegetarian menu items are available at 1/2 price. In addition, their full menu is available with gluten free options and organic choices. If a Monday doesn’t work for you, Akasha has a beginners class on Wednesdays and Duke’s has has a preset green drink menu the first Wednesday of every month where you can enjoy great food while listening to a speaker discussing green issues that will be both informative as well as inspirational. Dukes is across the street from Akasha and right across from the train.
