Children’s Birthday Parties on the Northwest Line

Looking for ideas for your child’s birthday party? Browse through our list of venues in the Northwest Suburbs on the Metra Northwest Line that will host you child’s big day. The venue are listed in order, starting with the stops closest to the city. The prices listed on the website were the fees at time of post, please verify before booking your party. On the weekends, a pass is available for adults to ride all weekend for $7.00. Each adult can have up to three children under the age of eleven ride free, so transporting the party can be fun and affordable.

Habetler Bowl

 

Habetler Bowl – This birthday bash includes 1 1/2 hours of bowling, then off to the party room for pizza and pop. Habetler Bowl in Jefferson Park provides the pizza, soda, bowling shoes, invitations and all the paper goods including a table cloth. Just bring your child’s favorite cake. There is a minimum of 10 children to get this party going. At time of post the charge was $16.00 per child.

To get to the bowling alley get off the train at the Jefferson Park Metra Station and head southeast, turn left on West Argyle Street, keep left on West Argyle which turns into North Northwest Highway, left on West Carmen Avenue, right on North Milwaukee Avenue, left on North Northwest Highway. It’s about a 10 – 15 minutes walk from the station.

Dee Road Metra  Station

Ice Skating Fun on the Line-Book a Birthday party at the Oakton Ice Arena for your child and 9 friends, and enjoy skating or learning how to skate. The ice skating party package includes 1 hour of rink time complete with skate rental and 1 1/2 hours of time in the kitchen area  where you will have use of the stove, refrigerator and sink. The party package for residents is $125.00 and $190.00 for non residents. Don’t worry if your child doesn’t know how to skate, for an additional $40.00 a private instructor is available for 30 minutes.

To get to the Oakton Ice Arena from the Dee road Metra Station head northwest on Avondale Avenue, continue on Park Plaine Avenue, slight left on Oakton Avenue. The arena is approximately 6 minutes from the station.

Des Plaines Metra Station

Race Over For Slot Car Racing Fun-The children will have fun racing slot cars around the tracks at Dad’s Slot Cars in Des Plaines. Birthday Parties include 1 hour of track time complete with car and controller. The price for a birthday party of 8 guests on 1 track is $125.00 and for a party of 16 guests on 2 tracks is $275.00. No outside food is allowed. There is an old fashion ice cream/soda fountain on site.

To get to Dad’s Slot Cars from the Des Plaines Metra Station head northwest on Elinwood Street, then left on Lee Street. Dad’s will be on your right, approximately 3 – 5 minute from the train.

Arlington Heights Metra Station

Say Cheese – Pizza Making Party – Reserve a time at Piatti Pronti for a pizza making birthday party. The pros at this restaurant will guide your young chef through the entire process, from making the dough, to creating their own pizza. The children will enjoy eating what they made and as well as the cupcakes and ice cream the restaurant provides. Children must be at least 5 years old. Parties are limited to Saturdays from11 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

To get to Piatti Pronti from the downtown Arlington Heights Train Station,US 14 East, right on North Evergreen Avenue, left on East Grove Street. Approximately 12 minute walk, including crossing Arlington Heights Road which can be quite busy.

Park District Theme Parties  – With lots of terrific options, Arlington Park District is a great place to host your child’s next birthday party. All parties include ice cream, juice, plates, napkins, utensils, decorations and goody bags. Let your child choose between a Princess, Animal, Sports, Dance Party, or an Old Fashion Party with party games. The price of each party varies with prices starting at $250.00 for 14 children plus the birthday child. Most parties are geared toward children 4 through 8 years of age.

To get to Pioneer Park from the downtown Arlington Heights Metra Station, head south on North Vail, right on West Sigwalt Street, then left on South Fernandez Avenue. This is about a mile walk which may take 20 to 25 minutes.

Make a Splash Swimming Party – Your child will have fun splashing around with their friend at one of the Olympic Indoor Pools. Each birthday party will last approximately 1 1/2 – 2 hours and cost $315.00 to $390.00. This party is geared toward children ages 4 and older. The party package also includes the use of a party room as well as ice cream, juice, plates, napkins, utensils, decorations and goody bags. The package you select will determine which pool(s) and private use of the pool versus family time.

To get to the Olympic Indoor Swim Center head north on North Vail Street, left on West Fremont Street, right on North Walnut Street, left on West Euclid Avenue and right on North Ridge Avenue. This is about a 14 minute walk and may take a little longer than alternate routes , but will keep you off busy roads as much as possible.

Hat Trick Hockey

 

Hop On Board for a Hockey Party – The Salt Creek Sport Center in Palatine is an inline/floor hockey venue. The rink can be rented out for 1 1/2 hour time periods for hockey, open skate, basketball, soccer or dodge ball. The cost of rental is 1/2 rink $115.00, with a  maximum of 12 children or full rink $225.00 with no limit on the number of children. Use of their party room is included in the fee. For an additional fee, food packages are available. Each child will need to have a signed waiver before being allowed to participate.

To get to Salt Creek Sport Center from the Arlington Park Metra Station head southeast , go left on North Wilke Road, left on US 14, and right on South Consumer Avenue. This may seem like you are going out of your way, but it will be safer to cross at the light. It will take about 15 – 20 minutes to walk from the station.

Get the Party Rolling at Orbit Roller Rink – The Orbit  Roller Rink in Palatine has a variety of party plan options. For the younger child they suggest the afternoon parties on Saturdays and Sundays. The rink requires a minimum of 8 children.  The cost per child for the basic birthday party package is $12.99 for 3 hours rink time, including skates. Also included pop, paper goods, invitations,  and the D.J. will announce the birthday child. For a dollar more the premium package is available which include pizza, frozen treats, game tokens, goodie bags, and a balloon bouquet. Older children may enjoy the night time skating parties. On Friday nights there is cosmic skating under a black light and light shows. Saturday night is geared more toward families,there are light shows and the D.J. plays top 40 music that has been screened to be appropriate for your child. Prices for the 4 hour skate packages are $14.99 for the basic package and $18.99 for the premium package. In addition to what is included in the daytime packages there are some extra surprises for night time skaters such as unlimited popcorn and glow necklace on Friday and a flashing bracelet on Saturday. Bring a cake and the kids and you have a party. Private party sessions are also available.

Little Kickers Soccer

 

Little Kickers Soccer or Sport Party-Soccer Enterprises in Palatine has a lot of options for your child’s birthday party. The staff will take charge and lead the party in your choice of age appropriate game and activities. For 50 minutes you can select from 1 or 2 of the following activities, soccer, dodge-ball, flag football, kickball, tee-ball or capture the flag. Then off to the party room for another 40 minutes.  Food packages are available and they can even arrange for your cake. Pricing for a party is $190.00 for one coach/instructor for a group of 9 children 4 years of age and under, or 16 children ages 5 through 12. If your party is larger, extra coaches are available for an additional fee.

To get to Soccer Enterprises from the Arlington Park Metra Station head southeast , go left on North Wilke Road, left on US 14, and right on South Consumer Avenue. This may seem like you are going out of your way, but it will be safer to cross at the light. It will take about 15 – 20 minutes to walk from the station.

Palatine Metra Station

The Palatine Park District hosts parties at three separate venues, however only the parties held at the community center are within walking distance of the train. The good news, this is where the majority of the parties are held. All parties include 2 hour facility rental, themed activities with materials and instruction for the first hour. Guests are responsible for food, beverages, and paper goods. Parties are geared toward toddler to teens.Birthday party themes include your choice dance, craft, little chefs, magic and science parties. Gear your theme to the number of guests. Prices for the parties range in price from $105.00 – $200.00 for residents and $158.00 – $300.00 for non residents.

To get to the Palatine Community Center head east on West Wood Street. The center is about an 8 minute walk from the station.

Crystal Lake Metra Station

Pottery Painting Party-There are two Pottery Painting Birthday Party options are available for your child and friends at  Color Me Mine in Crystal Lake . The standard birthday party is $7.00 plus the cost of the ceramic, and includes invites, paper goods, the party room for 1 1/2 hours and even the candles. The ultimate party for $28.00 includes all of the above plus the ceramic, an additional 1/2 hour in the party room and an ice cream cake. No favors to buy, as each child will receive his or her creation. You will need to stop back to pick up the ceramics after they have been fired. The minimum number of guest is 8 and the maximum is 14.

To get to Color Me Mine from the downtown Crystal Lake Metra Station, head northwest on Railroad Street, left on Grant Street, left on Woodstock Street, and right on North Williams Street. Allow approximately 5  minutes.

Nature Themed Birthday Party-The Crystal Lake Park District Nature Center is located in Veterans Acres, a beautiful park. The Park District offers a number of  birthday parties, centered around nature related themes. Your child can choose from Animal Adventure, Beautiful Butterflies, Campfire Capers, Fossil Find, Incredible Insects, Pond Pals, or a Reptile Safari themed party. All parties are fun and informative with hands on activities. Parties last about 2 1/2 hours and cost $140.00 for 15 children. Bring your own cake and paper goods.

To get to the Nature Center from the downtown Crystal Lake Train Station, head southeast on Railroad Street, and left on Main Street. Allow approximately 10 minutes. Please note that there is a street that you will be crossing, that at certain times of the day can be quite busy.

Ice Skating Birthday Party-The Crystal Lake Ice House doesn’t host organized parties, however they do offer discounted rate during public skate time, and reserve tables for the birthday group. Standard decorations are allowed along with cake and ice cream. The Ice House requires all other food to be purchased from the concession.

To get to the Ice House from the Crystal Lake Metra Station, head southeast on Railroad Street, left on North Main Street, right on East Prairie Street, stay right on East Prairie Street/Prairie Trail. Allow approximately 10 minutes.

Woodstock Theater

Birthday Fun at the Movies-Take the birthday group to the movie at the Woodstock Theater. The theater always offers affordable movie tickets. For a birthday group the package will include the price of admission and the kiddie combo which includes popcorn, soft drink and candy. There is no party room at this theater. so you may want to head across the street to the Woodstock Square and have a small picnic and let the kids run.

The theater is located only a few minutes from the train station. Head southeast on Wheeler Street, which becomes Main Street. The theater will be on your right.

Blast Off For Birthday Fun-The Challenger Learning Center in Woodstock is the perfect setting for an out of this world birthday party, with two party options geared for children at least ten years of age. The first party is a Spectacular Space Mission, where for 2 hours your child and at least 16 of their friends will fly a space mission. Each child will have an assigned task in either ground control or a realistic space shuttle. The fee is $400.00 for a truly memorable experience. The second option is the Extreme Battle Bots where the children are split into teams, to assemble their battle bots out of robotic parts, and ultimately battle it against the opposing team. A minimum of 12 children are required and fee per child is $15.00. Allow two hours for either party and 1/2 hours for cake. The cake and supplies are not included. If you have never seen this facility it is amazing, you may want to check out one of their family night programs.

From the Woodstock Train Station it should only take about 2 minutes as the center is located across the street. Head southeast on Wheeler Street and left on Church Street.
