If you are a fan of the blues or a blues musician, here are two great places in the Northwest Suburbs for you to check out.
The first is the blues bar in Mount Prospect. The decor is a tribute to the film The Blues Brothers. The bar offers bi-level dining with daily food and drink specials. Known for their barbecue and their extensive beer selections. If you are not a beer lover try one of their martinis. If you can’t decide on which martini to try they offer a flight of three martinis to sample.
Check the events calender on the Blues Bar’s web site for a list of upcoming bands. Note: not all bands are blues bands, they host a wide array of music for all ages. Come early and get a table to ‘watch the music although there are 10 LCD screens around the bar to view the live performances. The Blues Bar is just a short walk from the Metra Station head northwest on US 14, right on South Main Street, and left on West Busse Avenue.
The second venue is The Lamplighter Inn Tavern & Grille in Palatine. On the last Sunday of every month the Lamplighter has an open blues jam. They provide the Mics, PA, Guitar Amp and Drum Set. The public provides the talent. (at least we hope they do). Sign up is at 7.00 pm and the music starts at 8 pm. The Lamplighter has a full menu with daily specials on both food and drink. The Lamplighter Tavern is open late, and serves food until 12:00AM, for anyone wanting to grab a bite to eat before getting back on the train. To get to the Lamplighter from the train station, head east on West Wood Street, then right on North Bothwell Street. This is less than a five minute walk.
