Interview with the Director of Marketing:
On Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 we interviewed Amy Malpica the Director of Marketing for the Raue Center For the Arts and asked her to share some her insight on this local cultural arts and entertainment venue.
What do you feel makes your venue unique?
We are not simply an encounter with performance–live entertainment at Raue Center is intimate. You will catch every facial expression, see every guitar fingering, and hear every breath… Your experience with the arts will never leave you quite the same and always leave you wanting more. We provide a variety of world-renowned performing artists, musicians, comedians, dancers and more. You’re sure o find something for evryone at Raue Center.
What role do you feel the Raue plays in the community?
As a painstakingly restored, 1920s regional showcase theatre named for its benefactor—Lucile Raue—Raue Center has attracted the finest stars, Broadway shows, musicians and artists. Named on the League of Historic American Theatres, Raue Center is one of the finest examples of restored art and decor in the nation. The 750-seat theatre, located in historic, downtown Crystal Lake, is a gathering place for our region’s citizens and has become a true destination.
Raue Center is a community anchor and source of civic pride not only for Crystal Lake but also for greater McHenry County. We are proud to stand at the forefront of bringing the arts into the community and cultivating passion within individuals.
What information might your clientele find surprising?
We have a variety of programming for all ages and tastes, from stand-up comedy, musicals, ballet, circus,
performing arts, visual arts galleries…
Does your venue offer any additional services, classes, seminars, etc.
Yes. We offer several educational classes for both kids and adults in theatre, film, stand-up comedy, improv, storytelling and a lecture series. We also have a program called Mission Imagination that inspires school children through the performing arts. Schools are given the opportunity to bus kids in for performances. But if that’s not a possibility, we also offer the opportunity for the show to travel to the school. This becomes increasingly
important as schools’ arts program budgets are continually cut.
What are the Raue’s plans for the future?
Continue to provide quality programming to the community as well as cultivate passion for the arts in everything we do. Raue Center For The Arts is entering into our 10th Season Anniversary! We have a phenomenal line-up of shows scheduled this season in celebration of our anniversary, including As Long As I’m Singing featuring Dennis Tufano, American folk legend Arlo Guthrie, Steinway prodigies Danny Wright and Emily Bear, New Shanghai Circus, One Night of Queen, Tony award-winner The 39 Steps and, of course, Lucy’s Cafe
